Between Drishyam and Drishyam 2, director Jeethu Joseph directed seven films, while Mohanlal featured in over 25 projects. However, throughout the promotional interviews for these interim films, one question was always asked, “When will you work on Drishyam 2?” Now, post Drishyam 2, Jeethu has already made four to five films, and Mohanlal has been involved in nearly 15, yet the question has simply evolved into: “When will Drishyam 3 happen?” While no official release date has been announced, Mohanlal took to his social media on Thursday to confirm that the third instalment is in development.
Mohanlal announces Drishyam 3
Sharing a picture with director Jeethu Joseph and producer Antony Perumbavoor, Mohanlal wrote, “The past never stays silent. Drishyam 3 confirmed.” This announcement has sent fans of the Drishyam franchise into a frenzy, particularly as another highly anticipated collaboration, Ram, has been stuck in development limbo for quite some time. Producer Antony Perumbavoor further fuelled excitement with a recent post, stating, “Today, the anticipation for Drishyam 3 is a topic of discussion not just in Kerala, but globally. Jeethu is already working on the groundwork, and the thought process is being discussed by him, Lal sir, and Aashirvad Cinemas.”
Fans reacted to this exciting news and dropped many comments under the post. One of the fan commented, “Woaah !! The biggest brand sequel is back.” Another one said, “This is gonna be lit.”
More about the Drishyam franchise
The Drishyam legacy has extended far beyond Malayalam cinema, with multiple remakes of the original 2013 film. It has been adapted into Tamil (Papanasam), Telugu (Drushyam), Kannada (Drishya), Hindi (Drishyam), Sinhalese (Withanage), and even Chinese (The Witness). Drishyam 2 was also remade in Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada, with Ajay Devgn, Venkatesh, and Ravichandran reprising Mohanlal’s role in their respective versions.
This is the second major project Mohanlal has confirmed recently. Just days ago, he shared news about another upcoming film, which will be helmed by actor-filmmaker Anoop Menon. Posting a picture with Anoop, Mohanlal wrote, “Delighted to announce my next film, a dramatic journey traversing love, longing and music, to be shot extensively in Thiruvananthapuram, Kolkata and Shillong. Written and directed by Anoop Menon and featuring a stellar team BTS, produced by Timeless Movies, this subject is so close to my heart. I sincerely welcome all of you to be part of our epic journey.”
Mohanlal, who recently made his directorial debut with Barroz, is also eagerly awaiting the release of Prithviraj Sukumaran’s L2: Empuraan. In addition, he is set to reunite with Mammootty in Mahesh Narayanan’s next project and will also star in Tharun Moorthy’s Thudarum.
